Baby Bum Spray Comparison: Honest Soothing Bottom Wash + Diaper Lotion Potion

IMG_3965

I first discovered “butt spray” when I started looking into cloth diapers. The spray is not limited to just cloth diapers. It helps a lot when you have a big mess in the underpants area!

I had used the Diaper Lotion Potion for a while and it was wonderful, but as usual I get bored of things and wanted to use new products. So a few months ago I decided to try out Honest one. Here are my thoughts on both.

First off, the Diaper Lotion Potion, we’ll call it DLP. DLP is a concentrated concoction of essential oils, that you dilute with water, preferably distilled water, that way it won’t go bad, or witch hazel. There’s only three ingredients! Jojoba oil with chamomile for moisture, lavender oil for healing and fragrance, and tea tree oil for antibacterial purpose, that’s it! To make the diaper solution, you only need a tablespoon of the oil and 4 oz of water or witch hazel. Which in total, makes 8 bottles. The concentrated DLP cost on Amazon is around $15. The Honest Soothing Bottom Wash retails at $9.95. So that right there tells me the DLP is up top on my list of pros. My only con for the DLP is the bottle I bought for it. The atomizer sprays very sheer mists and it takes several pumps to get the results I want, and if you’re a mom, you know what it’s like to struggle during a diaper change when there’s poop everywhere! You just want it done quick, easy and clean! My baby’s bottom was always smooth and supple after using the DLP and it definitely helped the healing process when she had bad diaper rashes. Pros all around!

Right off the bat, I loved the Honest bottom wash. It was in a bigger bottle, better to hold on to. All the great ingredients the Honest company always promises. Con: There’s 3 times the ingredients in this one than the DLP. It did a great job for the daunting diaper explosions. Although, it felt like I was using soap on her butt. It foamed a lot and I wasn’t too keen on using a spray that felt like it needed a rinse under the faucet. This is not a good spray to use when your little one has the slightest big of a rash!!! It must have stung or something because she started crying the second I sprayed it on her butt! She’s never had that reaction with the DLP solution. My daughter has extra sensitive skin, so diaper rashes was a common occurrence. As much as I love Honest products, this is not one I will repurchase. I do love the bottle and atomizer. The spray covers a wide range, and gets the job done with just a couple spritz. I’ve decided to use the Honest bottom wash bottle with my DLP concentrate, and it was match made in diaper disaster heaven!

I hope this review helped.

My LASIKplus Experience!

I had my eye correction procedure done yesterday and I thought I’d share my experience while it was fresh in my mind. Before I describe my LASIK experience, I thought I’d tell you my eye history.

My vision started declining when I was in grade school, around 5th or 6th grade. I didn’t get glasses till I was in middle school, it was to the point where I couldn’t read the board. Then came contact lenses, which I didn’t get till I was in high school, probably sophomore year. I wore contact lenses for the rest of high school and into my early twenties. So about about eight years, give or take. Around the eighth year I started having trouble with my contact lenses. I never slept with them on, I had special cleaning solutions that made sure they were clean, I always checked the lenses to make sure they were in good shape, and switched them out quite regularly. One day I put them in and immediately it was uncomfortable. My eyes were so dry and it felt like I had sand in my eyes. So I went back to my glasses, and thought I would wait it out till they felt better to go back to my contact lenses. Well to my disappointment, I couldn’t wear my contacts anymore. No matter how long I would wait, my eyes never accepted contact lenses, As soon as I put them in they would sting and dry up, my eyes would be blood shot and just all around unpleasant.

So I wore my glasses, up until yesterday, when I got my LASIKplus done. I wore glasses for 6 years. I’m a picky person, so trying to find glasses to fit my very wide framed face and to look “good” in glasses was a struggle. Luckily thick frames glasses have been very trendy the past few years. In 2012 I had my daughter, and that’s when I really felt my glasses were in the way. My glasses were always dirty, smeared with oil, sliding off my face, or her just knocking them off my face and trying to break them, everyday! LASIK was sounding more and more appealing, granted I was thinking about LASIK long before my daughter came into this world, but I was skeptical because I didn’t know anyone who had it done, and always heard the cons rather than the pros. My husband is actually the one who suggested I go in for a consultation. The place I had gotten it done was having a $600 off promotion and a free eye exam. I was like, what the heck, why not? Well once I had my eye exam done, I was certain this was something I wanted. They told me I was a great candidate for the surgery and I could get it done in a week! I was so happy to hear that because I wasn’t sure if my eyes were strong enough for it, especially with how my eyes had reacted with contacts. The eye exam is slightly more in depth than your regular eye exam, and they dilate your eyes, but nothing painful, and none of that air puff in your eye! That alone makes me never want to have an eye exam.

Fast forward a week, to September 13th. They tell you to give yourself an hour or two for the appointment. Mine took about two hours, but an hour and forty five minutes of it was me waiting, which is the worst part! They check your vitals, temperature, ask you if you have any questions, they go over what you need to do after the procedure. They truly try to make you feel comfortable. After the excruciating long wait, I’m taken to “the room”. It’s cooler than the rest of the office, which I’m guessing is for the machines running the lasers. First thing they did was check my eyes, which took 4 seconds. Then they laid me down on a bed for the first procedure, which is where they make the flaps. The lady technician put in numbing eye drops in both eyes, then some more. Another 4 seconds later the doctor is putting a suction ring on my eyeballs. That did not bother me at all, he didn’t push very hard and it was very quick. The laser to make the flap, on the other hand, did feel uncomfortable for a few seconds, but it wasn’t painful, just some pressure. After they were done with opening the flap, they took me over to another bed, which was a foot away from the first machine, they help you over there because at this point your vision is very blurry. The next machine is where they reshaped my eye. The doc puts in instruments to keep my eye held open, held my head still and told me to stare at a green dot. This one lasted a couple more seconds than the first one. Out of the whole procedure, which only took seconds, the one thing that caught me off guard was when I started to smell something. The burning of my cornea. Yup, that was unexpected! It smelled like burnt hair, EW! After that was done he flips the flaps back into place, puts in a liquid solution, then voila, you are done! The whole process is done one eye at a time. He checks your eyes again and I was walking out the door. My vision was blurry but at the same I would read the clock on the wall, and I would see my husband and daughter on the other side of the window.

The whole thing literally took a minute! The doc said that the numbing drops will fade in about 15 minutes, and sure enough they did. My eyes felt strained and started stinging, my eyes started watering and it was hard to keep them open because I was so sensitive to the sunlight. They prescribe you antibiotic and steroid eye drops, so we went to pick those up. They recommend you have your eyes closed the first 4-6 hours after the surgery, which means you get to take a long ass nap! 🙂 So my husband bought some Advil PM for me to take, went home, had some lunch, and went straight to bed. I napped for 4 hours, when I woke up the sensitivity and stinging was gone and I could see clearer. I was still sensitive to bright lights but I was feeling great! Today, which is the next day from my procedure, my vision has only gotten sharper, the sun and bright lights are still something to get used to but that will get better with time, I mean it’s only been a day!

Other than having perfect vision, the only evidence of my surgery is a little red spot on my left eye, which was from the suction ring. Which is normal and harmless, it’s a bruising that will go away in a couple weeks.

It’s only been a day and the whole healing process will take up to a year. The flap should be healed in a week. I’ll try to update my progress in 3 months which will be my last follow up with the LASIK office.

If honestly don’t know if I would have gotten LASIK done if I was able to wear contact lenses, BUT now that I know what it feels like to have it done and to be free of glasses and contact lenses, I’m totally happy with my decision!

I totally recommend LASIKplus to whoever is considering laser eye correction! I only wish I had gotten it done sooner! It is costly but it’s so worth the money, and if down the road your vision starts changing, you can go in and get it redone, for FREE! As long as you get your eyes check yearly, they’ll fix it, no charge!

I hope this helped a little bit to anyone who is thinking about getting it done!

Our Family Trip to Columbus Zoo!

Here’s a little video of our time there.

Sorry for the poor video editing skills!

I was trying to remember how many zoos I’ve been to in my life. I’m pretty sure a handful of times. The Columbus Zoo is the biggest one I’ve been to and we had a great time. They also have an aquarium but it’s not worth mentioning. It’s a huge zoo and known to be one of the best in the states.

Product Review: California Baby and Honest Company’s Shampoo + Body Wash

calibaby

I’ve used most baby soaps the stores have to offer. After using Aveeno and Johnson and Johnson soaps I decided to use the higher end ones Target offers.

CB’s version has less lather than J&J’s, smells of lavender, and rinses off easily. Tear free and is made with natural ingredients.

As much as I love thick soapy goodness, I know it means there’s more sulfates and that means more drying on the skin, which we are trying to avoid for our little kiddos.

honest-shampoo

Honest’s Shampoo and Body Wash is plant based, no harsh chemicals, and smell of oranges and vanilla, which is a great change from the ever so popular lavender. I’m not a big fan of lavender so I was happy to see they did something different. The Honest one lathers a tad bit more and is also tear free.

Both bottles weigh at 8.5 ounces, and both range around the $10.00 mark. Recently Honest teamed up with Target, and you can find the Honest products at their stores. Honest Company has a great bundle deal online, which comes out a little cheaper at the end if you like to use their products. It’s easy to sign up, you can manage which products you want each month, and change your delivery date to whenever it suits you.

I really like Honest’s Shampoo and Body Wash, which we’ve already repurchased. Don’t quote me on this, but I’ve heard rumors that J&J products have a lot of chemicals that can cause cancer (I mean what doesn’t?), so I am more than happy to spend a couple more dollars to give my baby a product free of chemicals.

Thanks for reading and stopping by! Hope this helped you out.

Product Review: Dr. Bronner’s Castile Liquid Soap

drbronner

Ah, yes. The Magic soap.

I was first introduced to Dr. Bronner’s Castile liquid soap through the wonderful community that is Pinterest. I was browsing Pinterest, and came across non-toxic multipurpose cleaning solutions. One of the ingredients was Dr. Bronner’s amazing soap. Castile soap to be exact, which just means soap made with olive oil. After seeing it on Pinterest, I saw it everywhere. In Korean tv shows, Youtube videos, blogs. It got me so interested to try the stuff, needless to say.

My first purchase was the Baby Mild, the one in the light blue bottle. I was pregnant at the time, and I was trying to buy a bunch of stuff in preparation for my little princess. When I received it, I didn’t open it till Rylee was born. I wanted to save it for her, so I resisted, yeah, I’m weird.

Well a couple months later, she was here! Her first bath wasn’t even with me! My mom had taken over and Rylee was pampered by Grandma. After that it was all us, me and the hubby. We had used the Baby Mild for weeks, and I noticed Rylee getting lil patches of dry spots. I thought to myself, there’s no way it’s the awesome soap that everyone raved about, maybe I just need to use more lotion. Of course, I was in denial! After using a good portion of the 36oz bottle, which took forever to use up, I decided to by a regular soap for babies at the store. I think it was an Aveeno one for eczema, sensitive skin. My, my did it make a difference! In my honest opinion, even the Baby Mild is too drying of a soap to use for babies, especially for newborns!

It took me months to use the soap up, I used it mainly to clean my hands. After months of trying to use it up, when it was gone, I missed it! Yes, despite how I felt about it for my kid, it did a great job of cleaning things. If I had too much product in my hair, it washed it all out, not a trace of hairspray, gel, or the dreaded wax, that takes 3 shampoo sessions to get off. I have the world’s greasiest hair, so as a clarifying shampoo I used this soap once a week. I’m willing to bet that it can even take soap scum off bath tubs and shower curtains! If you have a stubborn stain, or something you use on a regular basis that should be cleaned once in awhile, like a hairbrush, it’s great!

I’m sure there’s many many more uses for it, and I can’t wait to find them!

Hope this helped, let me know your experiences with the Magic Liquid soap.

Chrissy’s Banana Milk

My first post! A quick, and super easy delicious drink.

Korea has a drink called Banana Milk, that is so artificial, sweet, and awesomely remind me of my childhood. You can find it in most Korean markets but it’s really hard to find here in Dayton. So, here’s my healthier, less artificial version of the Banana Milk.

IMG_3721

Banana Tip: I would recommend riped bananas, but nothing darker than the ones pictured. I feel the sugars have developed at that stage but doesn’t have that overpowering banana smell and taste.

IMG_3730

There are two options with the banana. We all know how fast bananas go, so when they are at the perfect ripness(yes that is a new work I made up) you can cut them up and freeze them and they will last a couple months. The other option, obviously, is the none frozen version. I would add about a half cup of ice to cool the drink.

IMG_3732

I fill the cup with to the max fill line, which is about 1 3/4 cups.

IMG_3733

Now the next ingredients are optional. I know what you’re thinking, a post about a drink with two ingredients? Really, Chrissy? Well here’s where you can add nutritional value to this drink! You hear all these great things about flax seed and blah blah blah, but I find it super difficult to put it in everyday food, or maybe I’m just lazy, let’s go with the latter. I keep a mixture of flax seed and hemp seed(also a superfood) in a container. I just eyeball it into the blender, and voila, you have extra benefits to your drinks. I think protein powders are another great option.

IMG_3735IMG_3736

I put the blade attached lid on and let it go for a minute or two. I use the milling blade and it doesn’t come out gritty or chunky, which always a plus.

My daughter loves her banana milk so I put in a cup with a lid and she’s good to go!

I know this was super simple but I hope you try it out! Enjoy!

Ingredients for Banana Milk

2 riped bananas

1 3/4 cups of milk

2tbsp flax seed

2tbsp hemp seed

Blend for a minute or till smooth.
